You can check out Tamirindo. Its an excellent beachbreak and not to heavy and easy for begginers.

I just moved to Ventura from the East Coast. I’m not a pro by any means but am good enough that I’ve never had any issues with other surfers in the water. But I’m not used to the number of people in the water here. Yesterday a guy paddled about five feet out from me and just sat there. It was fairly crowded but we had about twenty feet of clear area on either side of us. He sat there for a few minutes before going for a wave. Is this some silent form of localism or am I just overly sensitive to the crowds? I don’t want to start problems where there aren’t any to begin with. But if this is intentional I want to deal with it accordingly.

      Hey Chris,

Its hard to tell if the other surfer was being territorial. Sometimes you can tell or feel that they are a bit edgy like when they paddle really close to you and splash you a little when their stroking away. Yeah, sometimes you get that but keep in mind its not personal at all. They might be having a bad day and just taking it out on others. They aren’t as many local hassles these days as their used to be so my advise is just to be mellow and non confrontational. Just put a smile on your face and have fun and just do your own thing without getting in anybody’s way. Its kinda like driving on the freeway. Be on the lookout and follow the rules and you should be fine! Have fun out there!

      Hi Dan,

Sorry for the delay but you should try San Clemente San Onofre. There are very good rolling waves there for beggining. You can even have a camping day there with the kids. Good Luck!
